Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a session last?
Sessions typically last up to 1 hour.
How many sessions will I need?
Due to the individual nature of therapy it is almost impossible to state from the outset how many sessions are required. During the first appointment I will do a brief assessment - this provides me with basic information like your address, safe telephone number and a summary of the issues that have brought you into therapy. At the end of that session I will summarise what we have discussed and give you a simple formulation outlining your issues and your hopes and expectations of therapy. At that point I usually encourage clients to go home and reflect on the session and then if they are happy, to contact me and book further sessions. I typically book out in 6-week clusters, this is to ensure that the space is reserved for you. You do not have to use all 6 sessions - you are free to end counselling at any time without any judgements.
How often should I come for a session?
I would recommend a weekly appointment, at least to start with, to ensure a regular and consistent focus, however this can be negotiated if access and time are restrictions.
Where will the session take place?
I have a garden room that sits away from the house. It has been purposefully designed as a therapy space and is private and self-contained, warm and welcoming.
How much do you charge?
A typical session lasts an hour and costs £50.00, EMDR may require a longer session and will increase in price to £75.00. Payment can be made in cash or by card on the day.
What if I cannot make my appointment?
Each counselling session is a time set aside just for you, therefore a minimum of 24 hours notice is required for re-scheduling or the cancellation of an appointment. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged at the full fee rate.
Are our sessions confidential?
Yes. I will not discuss your counselling sessions with anyone unless you explicitly ask me to or if I need to ensure your safety.
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
I trained as a counsellor / psychotherapist at Warwick University and so I use the terms interchangeably. For the purposes of my work, they are the same thing.
What ages do you work with?
I work with adults age 18 and above.
